A Better Day: 10-minute yoga flow, art therapy, and Bright Minded Live

Each weekday, our editors are sharing their quick tips, workouts, recipes, and observations to help us make the most of our time at home. We hope it makes your day a little bit brighter. #stayhome

Let’s start with some good news…

One of our favorite beach clubs, Nammos Dubai, is helping to feed front-line staff and those in need by providing over 1,000 meals per week during the coronavirus pandemic. Since the beginning of April, the team at Nammos has been coming into work to safely cook and pack food packages along with fresh fruits, drinks and refreshments. These are then hand delivered to health centers and designated frontline caregivers managed by the UAE Food Bank and Dubai Municipality, which hosts people who have lost jobs because of COVID-19.

Do this for a healthy body

Set to get your heart rate pumping with high-knees, fast feet, and star jumps, this 30-Minute HIIT cardio workout with Lita Lewis for SELF is guaranteed to give you a buzz.

Do this for a healthy mind

Calm the mind with this 10-minute simple yoga flow by Sarah Beth Yoga, which can be done at the beginning or the end of the day to improve your flexibility over time.

Delicious deliveries to your door

We are throwing caution to the wind today and breaking the budget with an order from LPM-Dubai through Deliveroo: Chilean sea bass, burrata salad and a Spotify playlist – now if only the kids had somewhere to go, date night would be perfect.

What to watch

Ugly Delicious on Netflix shines a light on culinary expert David Chang who travels the world to see how different cultures put their own stamp on classic dishes. The pizza episode takes him to New York, Japan, and Naples, to experience the world’s best pizzerias.

What to listen to

If (like the rest of us) you’ve got a fascination with true crime, the six-part The Dating Game Killer series should be on your hit-list. It tells the story of a charming game show contestant who was, in fact, a serial killer. He evaded authorities for 11 years before his eventual downfall – all thanks to his TV appearance.

Home help

Art therapy can help unwind the mind so stay busy and stay creative with the I am Joyful – Adult Colouring Book from Saffron Souk, Dhs12, which you can download and print at home.

Isolators we love

While this pandemic hit the world like a wrecking ball, Miley Cyrus is trying to swing the negative news into a more positive place by focusing on messages of unity, joy, and love. The music star is using her mic to interview huge celebs and community heroes in a YouTube series called ‘Bright Minded Live’.

Join the party

If you’re a fan of Third Eye Blind, you can see them perform live via their Instagram account (at various times). Their So Alone, So Alive #AtHome mini-concerts are helping us get our groove back.

Cook like a pro

Long considered a bastion of gastronomic excellence, Le Bristol Paris holds four Michelin stars between two of its restaurants. Overseeing both is chef Eric Frechon, who here shares the secret of his naughty-but-nice hazelnut spread madeleines.

Ingredients
1. 1 small pot of hazelnut spread
2. 35ml milk
3. 100g sugar
4. 1 tsp vanilla extract
5. 125g flour
6. 125g melted butter
7. 2 small eggs
8. packet yeast
9. 1 tbsp butter (to grease the mould)
10. 1 tbsp flour (to dust the mould)

Method:
1. Melt the butter over a low heat
2. Grease the madeleine mould with melted butter and dust with flour
3. Preheat oven to 210°C/410°F
4. Beat the eggs in a small bowl
5. In a mixing bowl, add eggs, sugar, milk and vanilla extract
6. Add melted butter, flour and yeast and stir until combined
7. Add mixture to madeleine mould until half full
8. Add a dollop of hazelnut spread to each madeleine and top with the remaining mixture until full
9. Bake for 10 minutes in the oven until perfectly golden.

And lastly…things we’d never thought we’d miss #10

Having to squeeze into an elevator with a grown man and his scooter.
