Owners are all local or from the GCC, and even though any nationality can rent, tenants have to be families rather than groups of singles. It has a great location near to the beach, Burj Al Arab, shopping malls and fashion boutiques, lots of cafés, nurseries, and schools. Madinat Jumeirah, with its commercial souk and restaurants, is a go-to destination in the evening.
The area is easy to access from exit points off Sheikh Zayed Road, which lead to Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road – these run parallel along the length of Jumeirah. While there is no Metro there are plenty of passing taxis to flag down and a bus route. A tramline runs from JBR to Al Sufouh, south of the Jumeirah area. Reports suggest that the tramline will extend as far as the Burj Al Arab in the future, bringing it into Jumeirah itself.
The area is quite extensive and residents can choose from villas near to the malls, such as Mercato Mall in Jumeirah 1, or others may prefer to be nearer schools in Umm Suqeim or have views of the Burj Al Arab. Typically, villas in Jumeirah have between three and five bedrooms, which are very popular with families, but you will also find villas with six, seven or even ten bedrooms.
Jumeirah is a great place for families wishing to rent. It’s close to all amenities, it’s easy to get to the beach and there’s a great quality of life there. There are plenty of nurseries and schools to choose from, all within easy reach.
The Dubai Tram, of which phase one was completed in 2014, is expected to extend to the Burj Al Arab before 2020 and run all the way along Jumeirah Beach Road to 2nd December Street by 2025, making it easier to get around without a car.
Nadine Arton has lived with her husband and their two young children in the Umm Suqeim area of Jumeirah for three years.
"In our apartment in Old Town, we missed opening windows and letting the fresh air come in, and we wanted our newly-born daughter to have space to play outside. While our four-bedroom villa needed a lot of work doing to it when we moved in, the garden clinched the deal for us. We now have a lawn, a swimming pool, and an herb and vegetable garden that we use all the time. The neighbourhood is very friendly, too, and everything is easy to get to, such as nurseries, shops and the beach. We have a lot of options nearby for when the kids start school. My fashion boutique GlamOnYou is in Jumeirah 1, so it’s easy for me to pop to work and come back to be with the kids when I need to."
